The Block Health Science was the first building on campus. Designed by world-renowned architect Minoru Yamasaki, developer of the Health Science master campus plan. Construction started in 1970 and the building opened in 1973. The building was designed so that all laboratories have outside windows and center court contributes to "open air" feel of building.
The Block Health Science Building was renamed in 1995 in honor of Dr. Paul Block, the publisher of The Blade and first chairman of the Board of Trustees, for his instrumental role in the college's establishment and development.
