The Collier building houses classrooms, labs, and faculty offices for the
College of Nursing and the
College of Health Sciences.
A Toledo native,
Mr. Collier was the former State of Ohio director of finance, and the vice president of finance at the late MUO for 15 years, retiring in 1985.
The 87,550 square-foot, "Y"-shaped, structure, which was designed by Munger, Munger & Associates of Toledo, has four stories above ground, and one below. The facility features state-of-the-art equipment, including a fiber optic communications network. An enclosed walkway links the concrete and glass structure with the neighboring Paul Block, Jr. Health Science Building.
The Raymon H. Mulford Library Building served as the inspiration for the design of the Collier Building. Like the library building and University Medical Centers, the Collier building sits atop oversized columns. While the raised design is aesthetically pleasing, it is also extremely functional -- allowing for future expansion. If necessary, the open areas between the columns can be closed in to provide additional building area.
This new, high-tech facility reflects UT's educational commitment to preparing health care professionals in the fields of nursing and allied health professions.
The building is named for Howard L. Collier, former State of Ohio director of finance and the late MUO vice president of finance.
