Individual Academic Counseling
Individual academic counseling provides one-on-one academic assistance to students at The University of Toledo, affording the opportunity to develop skills supporting academic and career success.

Individual academic counseling addresses an individual's academic performance and the quality of their academic experience at The University of Toledo. Individual academic counseling affords students the opportunity to develop skills supporting their academic success. The primary focus of this service is to help each student reach his or her academic and career goals. It is up to the individual to define what areas they would like assistance.

What kind of issues can be addressed in individual academic counseling?

With the assistance of the Director of the Academic Enrichment Center, the student will identify those areas and skills in need of improvement. Some of the frequently addressed areas are:
  • Adjustment to the Medical University of Ohio
  • Adjustment to graduate/professional school
  • Job interviews
  • Learning styles
  • Memory techniques
  • Resume writing/curriculum vita
  • Stress management
  • Study and test taking strategies
  • Test taking Test anxiety
  • Time management
  • Writing research papers
For issues beyond the scope of the Academic Enrichment Center, referrals can be made to other services, such as psychological counseling and testing for learning disabilities.

Who can use this service?
  • Any student enrolled at The University of Toledo Health Science Campus, regardless of their academic standing, may use this service.
Who can make referrals to this service?
  • Faculty and staff may refer a student for individual academic counseling. Additionally, a student can initiate individual academic counseling without a referral.
How long does individual academic counseling take?
  • The frequency and duration of individual academic counseling is up to the student. Individual academic counseling may consist of a single session or may consist of multiple meetings over a number of weeks. When the student feels he/she has gained the needed skills, he/she can stop individual academic counseling.
