Mission Statement
The Mission of the Department of Medicine is to instruct students and residents in the science and art of medical practice. This is accomplished by faculty skilled in the latest knowledge and techniques of medicine.
Department Overview
In line with the national trend recognizing the crucial importance of primary care in the nation, the Department of Medicine provides northwestern Ohio and southern Michigan with a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services through its Division of General Internal Medicine and its many subspecialty divisions. Department of Medicine faculty are responsible for 35 to 40 percent of all teaching in the College of Medicine, and several of the subspecialty divisions have successfully formed close alliances with individual community practices. Following internal medicine faculty examples, within the last few years 25 to 30 percent of students have been recruited into internal medicine careers.
The Department of Medicine is undergoing dynamic growth in terms of faculty size and research programs. In addition, the Department is actively involved in developing new clinical sites. Overall, the Department is continuing to strengthen its effectiveness in its missions of clinical service, teaching, and research. We hope the information provided in these web pages will be useful in providing some sense of our enthusiasm and optimism about our future.
