Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunities

The University of Toledo Health Science Campus offers two distinct summer undergraduate research opportunities. The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) sponsored by the College of Graduate Studies is intended for students with a genuine interest in pursuing experimental research careers in biological science; this program introduces prospective graduate students to current biomedical research at UT. The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) sponsored by the College of Medicine is designed to attract well-qualified pre-med students to UT and to expose them to the medical school curriculum. Prospective M.D./Ph.D. students are highly encouraged to participate in the SURF program sponsored by the College of Graduate Studies to gain a better understanding of the diverse and unique research opportunities at the Health Science Campus of the University of Toledo.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) sponsored by the College of Graduate Studies
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) sponsored by the College of Graduate Studies provides undergraduate students with opportunities for independent research in an environment that encourages friendly and productive interactions between the students and faculty supervisors. The program is intended for students with a genuine interest in pursuing experimental research careers in biomedical science. A limited number of openings are available on a competitive basis. Each accepted student will receive a stipend in the amount of  $3,500 for a 10-week period of full-time research. Applications are due by February 2, 2007 with all applicants being notified of their acceptance status no later than March 23, 2007.

Some important features for students interested in the program are:

  • State of the art equipment
  • Modern campus in a safe suburban area
  • Internationally recognized faculty
  • Low student to faculty ratio
  • Student stipends available

The College of Graduate Studies on the Health Science Campus of the University of Toledo offers four distinct tracks in the Biomedical Sciences program to incoming students: Cancer Biology , Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases ,  Infection, Immunity and Transplantation and Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders.
