Online Continuing Nursing Education

The Center for Continuing Nursing Education, The University of Toledo College of Nursing offers two online pharmacology courses for advanced practice nurses required by the state of Ohio in preparation for attainment and nine pharmacology modules for renewal of prescriptive authority.

I.  Prerequisite Pharmacology for APN Prescriptive Authority

ACCREDITATION:
The University of Toledo is an approved provider of continuing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (OBN-001-91). Provider status is valid through February 1, 2008.

Contact Hours: 45
Maximum time allotted: 4 months
Cost: $585.00

Note: Six (6) of the total 45 contact hours of the Prerequisite Pharmacology for APN Prescriptive Authority course contains legal, ethical and fiscal issues related only to Ohio Laws and Rules governing prescriptive authority and the prescribing of drugs and devices as noted in the following: OAC 4723-9-01; OAC 4723-9-02-B; 4723-9-02 paragraphs (A) (2) (b) and (A) (2) (c). ORC 4723.482 paragraphs (B) (3) (b) and (B) (3) (c). There is some information on the Federal laws and rules and ethical and fiscal issues that are applicable for advanced practice in general.

CANCELLATION POLICY: No refunds are granted once payment has been received for the course.

II. APN Prescriptive Authority OH. Legal, Ethical and Fiscal Issues

ACCREDITATION:
The University of Toledo is an approved provider of continuing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (OBN-001-91). Provider status is valid through February 1, 2008.

Contact Hours: 6.0
Maximum time allotted: 1 month
Cost: $120.00

NOTE: The course, APN Prescriptive Authority OH, Legal, Ethical and Fiscal Issues, contains six (6) contact hours of legal issues related only to Ohio Laws and Rules governing prescriptive authority and the prescribing of drugs and devices as noted in the following: OAC 4723-9-01; OAC 4723-9-02-B; 4723-9-02 paragraphs (A) (2) (b) and (A) (2) (c). ORC 4723.482 paragraphs (B) (3) (b) and (B) (3) (c). There is some information on the Federal laws and rules and ethical and fiscal issues that are applicable for advanced practice in general.

Overview of General Pharmacology
ACCREDITATION:
The University of Toledo is an approved provider of continuing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (OBN-001-91). Provider status is valid through February 1, 2008

Contact Hours: 2.0
Maximum time: 1 month
Cost: $50.00

Dr. Pocotte has broad academic and research experience in pharmacology, chemistry, biology, physiology and pathology. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from Central Michigan University in 1979 and her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Michigan in 1985. She has conducted biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health and Navy Medical Research Institute. She has a history of research publications. Currently, Dr. Pocotte is Assistant Professor, The University of Toledo College of Nursing. She teaches graduate and undergraduate Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for which she developed three online courses. Dr. Pocotte's current area of research includes the effects of Reiki energy healing on pain and stress reduction in chronic conditions. Through The University of Toledo Complimentary Medicine Center, she is part of an herb/supplement patient consultant team. Dr. Pocotte has been an invited speaker to numerous professional CE events.
