MUOT subscribes
to IRIS, a grants information developed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The IRIS database is now available on the World Wide Web, and may be accessed
from any internet address within the meduohio.edu domain. This database contains
over 7,400 funding opportunities for researchers, students and institutions.
A wide variety of sponsors is represented, including federal agencies, foundations,
corporations, professional associations, and institutes. There are, however,
two caveats to the use of this database: 1) Since the database was developed
primarily for the University of Illinois, some opportunities are specifically
limited to faculty of that institution; 2) only funding organizations that sponsor
programs over a wide region of the country are included (i.e., local sponsors
such as the Ohio affiliates of the American Heart Association and the American
Cancer Society will not be listed).
IRIS, in its Fine-Tuned Search mode, allows the searcher to define individual
needs and eligibility for funding and matches them with sponsor interests and
applicant restrictions. IRIS may also be searched by Deadlines to generate a
list of upcoming sponsor deadlines which may be customized to encompass a range
of dates, academic status of the searcher, discipline and sponsor type. IRIS
also maintains a Thesaurus which lists in alphabetical and hierarchical form
the disciplinary fields in which funding is offered. Finally, IRIS contains
daily listings of Federal funding opportunities as published in the Federal
Register and Commerce Business Daily.
